Mutual Information Analysis for GF (q) Precoding in AWGN Channels

چکیده

In this paper, a novel precoding scheme based on the operations in Galois Field of size q = 2 (GF (q)) is proposed. In the proposed precoding scheme, the original finite modulated symbols are represented by elements in GF (q), and a precoding matrix with each element also selected from GF (q) is generated; With the operations defined in GF (q), the correlation among the symbols that are similar to the traditional linear precoding schemes are provided, and further utilized by the receiver. Using GF (2) as an example, we have demonstrated that with the proposed GF (q) precoding, the system mutual information is always no less than that without GF (q) precoding, regardless of the distribution of finite alphabet inputs. Since the maximum mutual information is the channel capacity, we derive that the proposed GF (q) precoding scheme is promising in approaching channel capacity.
